Meet our 2022 Distinguished Alumni Award Winner, Chaunté Lowe!

Posted April 5, 2022

Chaunté Lowe was an exceptional student in the School of Economics, competing in the high jump at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games when she was only a second-year student at Georgia Tech.

To no one's surprise, she's gone on to be just as exceptional as an alumna. Lowe represented the United States in an astonishing four Olympic Games between 2004 and 2016, and that's not even the most notable aspect of her story.

In 2019, Lowe was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, she's made it her mission to advocate for breast cancer research, women's health, and early detection, using her platform as a professional athlete to share her story on social media and TV to encourage other women to get checked.

In our recent feature story about Lowe, we shared how this inspirational alumna was training through chemotherapy treatments for the 2021 Olympic trials to help bring attention to her story: Olympian, Econ Alumna, and Cancer Survivor Chaunté Lowe Is Using Her Platform for Good.

Lowe will be honored at the Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony on April 7, 2022. The eighth annual celebration honors exceptional alumni from each of the six academic schools and three Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. Selected by the school from which they earned their degree or their respective ROTC unit, alumni are recognized for their significant contributions to the College, Institute, and the public welfare.

Congratulations on the well-deserved recognition, Chaunté!
