5 Reasons to Join the Economics Club at Georgia Tech
Posted October 20, 2021
The Economics Club at Georgia Tech provides an active forum to discuss ideas related to economics and society outside of the classroom. Students of all majors are invited to be a member of this academic, social, and philanthropic organization –– an interest in economics is all that is required!
The club sponsors guest speakers, museum trips, and other events. Currently, all events are virtual. Active club members are also invited to Atlanta Economics Club events.
Interested in getting involved? Here are five reasons to join the Econ club from organization president Benjamin Harrison and Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee Hector Pulido Moreno:
1. Be a part of a student organization.
"Joining the club also provides a great opportunity to become involved in a successful student-run organization," Harrison said.
2. Get leadership and professional experience leading a team or committee.
“Economics Club has leadership and committee opportunities for all majors and all years at Tech. It is a great way to get leadership and professional experience leading a team or committee, speaking with professionals to set up events, and hands-on work to better the club’s future while working with your peers, both students and academic professionals,” Harrison said.
3. Learn more about economics!
“I joined the econ club because I believe that understanding the implications of economics in everyday life could help me succeed in any career path. As a student attempting to enter the medical field, I believe that economics plays a huge role in the decision and policymaking that occurs within the healthcare industry,” Pulido Moreno said.
4. Attend events with other students interested in economics.
“The Georgia Tech Economics Club provides a great atmosphere to connect and network with others interested or involved in economics. We have events such as professor debates, speakers on current research and current events, and business professionals that come talk to us about their day-to-day,” Harrison said.
5. Network and connect with GT Econ alumni and business leaders working all over the world.
“These open-dialogue events allow people like myself to connect with GT Econ alumni and business leaders that are working all over the world in private and public banking, higher education, corporate positions of all types, entrepreneurship, and public service positions serving the government in many facets,” Harrison said.
“There is so much to do with an Economics degree or interest and the club provides us the opportunity to get a glimpse of the breadth of the possibilities we have."
